Anita Davis

Chief Mission Officer

Why Goodwill?

I have worked in the fields of community, economic, and workforce development for nearly 20 years. I chose this work because I wanted to help people by bringing investment and opportunities to communities that lacked these resources, said Davis. Through my work, I have witnessed the transformative power of a quality education, training, and employment. This is why I am so excited to join the Goodwill mission of empowering people through work!

What did you want to be when you were growing up?

First, I wanted to be a veterinarian and then a doctor. When I graduated from high school, I had a pre-med scholarship from KU med center. I knew I wanted to be of service to other people, but I quickly realized that anatomy and organic chemistry were not my favorite subjects.

What do you want to be now that you are grown up?

I am exactly where I am supposed to be! There is no greater reward than to be able to help people improve their lives and the lives of their families.

What does it mean to you to be employed?

I still remember my first job at 15 years old selling popcorn at the food court in Bannister mall. I felt so proud and independent and realized early on the value of work. Along my way, employment has provided a pathway for finding purpose in my life. It has afforded me the opportunity to improve upon my strengths and my weaknesses and taught me how to be an effective part of a team as well as a leader.

Anything else about you we should know?

When I am not working, I am somewhere responding to the needs of my three lovely children. I am an avid “foodie” that enjoys trying new restaurants as often as possible. I especially love soul food, Thai food, and Mediterranean food. My other favorite hobbies are traveling and weight training.
