Yandy’s Story
From overcoming language barriers to building confidence, Goodwill gave me the tools and belief in myself to start a new career.
Mission Moment
When Kaluta arrived in the United States, he was looking for a way to turn his experience into a future. Originally from the Democratic Republic of Congo, he spent more than two decades as a refugee in South Africa, working as a qualified electrician. Through Goodwill’s manufacturing training program, he found a clear destination. In just eight weeks, Kaluta built new skills in safety, math, tools, and workplace expectations while learning alongside a supportive community.
After earning his manufacturing certificate, Kaluta applied, interviewed, and was hired at Master’s Transportation. Today, he’s thriving in his role, handling electrical and HVAC work, stepping up wherever help is needed, and continuing to grow on the job. His journey is a powerful reminder of what’s possible when opportunity meets determination and support.
From overcoming language barriers to building confidence, Goodwill gave me the tools and belief in myself to start a new career.
After finding Goodwill and taking their classes, I gained the confidence and skills to turn my life around.
