Mission Moment

Paul’s Story

Shoes: Paul's Story

Meet Paul

Paul was ready for his second chance. He had great work experience as a store manager, but Paul also had barriers to employment. He has a health condition and a criminal record. His family situation deteriorated along with his health, and, after serving time in jail, he lost his family, his home, and his job.

A probation officer directed Paul to the GoodWORKS Career Center where a Goodwill career navigator helped Paul explore job options and practice interview skills. With the GoodWORKS team advocating for him, Paul applied for a retail position. He nailed the interview and received a job offer!

Paul’s probation officer states,

“He’s like a new person.”

Paul is quiet and reserved, but he’s gaining confidence to ask questions and stand up for himself. Finding employment that fit his skills and physical needs impacts other aspects of his life as well. Soon Paul will be getting his first paycheck. He’s making strides toward achieving financial independence and began family counseling to heal his home life.

Employment is More Than a Paycheck

It’s a resounding victory: for the individual, for their family, for their community. When jobs thrive, communities thrive.
